Hydrangeas will be blooming in June and Kamakura is famous for its beautiful hydrangeas. After a bit of rainy season, Kamakura should be included in your itinerary. The view of blooming hydrangea adds colorful element to the authentic temples in Kamakura.

There are many locations to enjoy hydrangea in Kamakura and Meigetsuin (明月院) is no exception.
Kamakura is very famous for its hydrangeas and Meigetsuin is probably one of the most famous temples among many locations in Kamakura. Because it is so famous, some people call it “Hydrangea temple”.
Since it is a great location to enjoy hydrangeas viewing, it does get crowded.
It is recommended to go very early to avoid possible crowd.
In June, the temple opens at 8:30, 30 minutes earlier than usual time so get a head start and enjoy a peaceful walk.

Meigetsuin is know for its beautiful dark blue colored hydrangeas. The blue color gets darker and darker so it will be beautiful color in mid to late June.
Over 2,500 hydrangeas will be blooming and you will be welcomed by refreshing view at the entrance.
As you go up the steps, there will be bamboo grove on the right hand side and it will be a great photo location.
