Since 1974, Akasaka Palace has been used for diplomatic activities as an accommodation and a reception to a state or official guest.

Previously the palace was opened to the public only 10 days for a year and moreover people who can visit the palace were selected by lottery.

However, from this year 2016, Japan Cabinet of Office decides to open the palace to public as long as it does not interfere with diplomatic activities. You can visit the palace without lottery now but please its opening time and date before your visit.
