Shinjuku Golden Gai is well-known as a bar area in Kabukicho (歌舞伎町), Shinjuku(新宿).
There are over 200 tiny shanty-style bars and clubs, which were built after World War 2. This area became famous because of its architectural interest and nightlife. Also Golden Gai is a meeting place for musicians, writers, actors and artists, so you could have Japanese sub-culture and underground out there.
