Enjoying hydrangeas in Tokyo

It’s almost June, that means it’s hydnrageas season! Hydrangeas in Tokyo start blooming in June and lasts until early July. Depending  on the acidity of the soil, you’ll be able to see various colored hydrangeas such as blue, pink, and purple.

If you are planning to visit Japan in June and looking for something to appreciate the season, it is recommended to stop by one of the spots that we have picked out.

1. Hakusan Shrine/ Hakusan Park (白山神社、白山公園)

As it is less than 30 minutes from Shinjuku station, it might be fun to stop by hydrangea festival which is held from June 11th through June 19th.

2. Showa Memorial Park (昭和記念公園) 

Showa memorial park is famous for its beautiful flowers blooming throughout the four seasons and hydrangeas are one of them. Walk along the pond and you’ll be surrounded by colorful hydrangeas for a relaxing afternoon.

It will depend on the whether but usually hydrangeas will start blooming in June in Showa Memorial Park.

3. Takahatafudoson (高幡不動尊金剛寺) 

Takahatafudoson is another famous location for the amazing view of hydrangeas. 

Hydrangea festival is held from June 1st through July 7th and you’ll be able to enjoy over 7500 stains of hydrangeas blooming with over 25o different types.

Starting in beginning of June, hydrangeas will start to bloom and is expected to peak mid June.

Easy 30 minutes access from Shinjuku station by express train so it will be a good spot to add to your itinerary if you are in Tokyo for vacation.

4. Sumida Park (隅田公園) 

Sumida park, located under Sky tree, is not only famous for its cherry blossoms but also for hydrangeas.

Get sky tree in the background and you can get a great photo with hydrangeas.

Starting in June, the flowers will bloom peaking in late June to early July. If you visit at its full bloom, you will be amazed by the hydrangeas blooming along the road for over 1km, also known as “hydrangeas road”.  

It is open all day, every day and no entry fee. Why not enjoy the new landmark of Tokyo and seasonal hydrangeas this June at Sumida park?
